Issue: obstacle notifications not consistent

Operators highlighted the increase in obstacles and the lack of communication from the approving authorities.

What can operators do?

If third parties propose to build structures likely to infringe your operations, operators should liaise as soon as possible with the parties and planning authorities, discussing:

  • the preservation of the separation
  • limiting any new obstacles.

An RPAS operator is responsible for monitoring the obstacles and airspace.

What are we doing and already delivered?

We manage the Aviation State Engagement Forum (AvSEF) which is open to stakeholders of the Australian aviation community. The forum deals with aviation matters of regional or national importance. The forum is a way for state safety programme stakeholders to engage regarding matters affecting Australian airspace.

Through the Office of Airspace Regulation, we manage the regulation of airspace in Australia. This includes an ongoing airspace review process to ensure aircraft operations are safe and the airspace architecture is fit-for-purpose. Reviews can highlight areas of elevated risk areas and trigger in-depth reviews as required.
