Minimum equipment list (MEL)

An aeroplane conducting a Part 121 operation requires a CASA-approved minimum equipment list (MEL).

Rotorcraft

A rotorcraft conducting a Part 133 operations requires a CASA-approved MEL if:

  • there is a master MEL for the rotorcraft
  • the flight is either, or both, of the following:
    • an IFR flight
    • a flight begins or ends at an aerodrome outside Australian territory.

Aeroplanes

There are MEL requirements for aeroplanes conducting:

  • a Part 135 operation
  • a Subpart 121.Z operation
  • an operation under EX74/24.

If your aeroplane is conducting these types of operations, you require a CASA-approved MEL if the flight is:

  • a flight begins or ends at an aerodrome outside Australian territory (regardless of whether there is a master MEL or not).
