CASA has launched a new dangerous goods (DG) campaign to help travellers understand what they can and can’t pack. With more passengers carrying lithium batteries, power banks, vapes, and other dangerous goods, it aims to reduce in-flight safety risks and prevent disruptions.

Research shows that many travellers don’t know what items are considered dangerous goods. They want clear, early guidance – ideally from their airline and airport – at least a week before check-in.

What’s new?

  • Pack Right. Safe Flight. communication suite – ready-to-use materials for passengers, airlines, and airports.
  • Modernised dangerous goods search tool – a campaign website where travellers can check packing rules for specific items.
  • Clear, instructional information – simple and engaging advice to help passengers pack correctly and avoid disruptions.

The impact

This campaign aims to:

  • Improve safety by reducing incidents from undeclared or incorrectly packed dangerous goods.
  • Ensure clear and consistent information to help passengers understand and follow the rules.
  • Reduce airport delays by educating travellers before they reach check-in and security.

More information

We encourage industry partners, airports, and airlines to help spread the message. For the latest information on what passengers can and can’t pack, visit casa.gov.au/packright.
