Associate Professor David Paton, who has been helping Adelaide Airport with their bird and animal hazard management for 20 years, kicked off this years event with his talk on wildlife hazards at Adelaide. David's presentation was wide ranging and emphasised the significance of good data capture and analysis.

Mark Wilson (Melbourne Airport) and Stephanie Bolt (Adelaide Airport) led everyone through a birdstrike case study, where both airports experienced similar events at a similar time of the year. The outcome for both airports was the realisation of the need to investigate incidents closely.

Kym Meys provided an overview on the wildlife hazards at Darwin Airport. Kym's talk focused on the recognition that they had to change the attitudes of all staff involved in wildlife hazard management as a priority.

Howard Ludgate, from Maroochydore Sunshine Coast Airport, provided their perspective on wildlife hazards. This included an overview of some of the challenges and benefits of preserving the native heath.

Phil Clark gave a quick run down on his involvement with wildlife hazard management at Wellington, New Zealand. Phil spoke about the unique environment and hazards at Wellington.
Wildlife Management Plan for the Great Barrier Reef Airport at Hamilton Island (543kb)
Graham Hall
spoke about the wildlife hazard management plan he has helped to develop for Hamilton Island. Graham emphasised that significant wildlife hazards, such as wallabies and deer, can be reduced with a concerted effort.

Steve Lewin from Broome provided his perspective on wildlife hazards. Steve emphasised the need to keep working on your management plan to keep it relevant.
The impact of wildlife strikes to the Qantas group of airlines (343kb)
Laurie Taylor, Qantas’s 737 Fleet Manager Engineering and Maintenance finished off the formal presentations. Laurie spoke about the work that he and his team have been doing to capture the costs associated with wildlife strikes.
