AC 139-09 - Aerodrome safety inspections at registered and certain other aerodromes provides guidelines for the conduct of Aerodrome Safety Inspections.

Aerodrome safety inspections for registered aerodromes and ALAs

Aerodrome safety inspections (ASIs) must be carried out annually at some registered aerodromes and aeroplane landing areas (ALAs). ASIs are not required at certified aerodromes. ASIs are required for any registered aerodrome that is used by an aircraft that is engaged in regular public transport or charter operations and has a maximum seating capacity of more than 9 seats (CASR 139.315). ASIs are also required for any ALA that is used at least once a week by an aircraft that is engaged in regular public transport or charter operations and has a maximum seating capacity of more than 9 seats (CASR 139.345). The ASI must be carried out by a person who has been approved by CASA under CASR 139.320.

Flight checks of aerodrome lighting systems

Holders of CASA Letter of Competency are authorised to conduct flight checks of aerodrome lighting systems.
